I was so proud of him! sometime we have to let them go and see what we have taught them, It was Rj who found the first family that we served on April Fools Day at Minnie's Food Pantry. I'm really not sure where to start with this one. I am so excited about the upcoming events that are happening with the Giving Movement and Minnie's Food pantry and this is one that takes the cake. I have been blessed in my life to meet so many people. One of the most memorable moments was my encounter with Pastor McClurkin while he was in concert in Houston, Texas. As he was singing his grammy award winning song "Stand" I sat there watching him bring the entire audience (including myself) into the presence of God. What was more powerful was when I walked out of my seat to the front of the stage and asked him if I could have the towel that he had been holding during the concert. He was singing "you prayed and cried" I kept saying "give me your towel" and when he understood me he handed the towel to me and I immediately took off running and crying with it. I still have that towel to this day! As I fast forward to now, I am just thinking of what he gave to me that day through a simple towel. It spoke volumes to me. I challenge you to give some simple and watch the returns. Now it's coming full circle. I interviewed Pastor Donnie along with J Moss, Dorina clark and Karen Clark (at the same time) last month at the BMI luncheon, it was the highlight of the Stellar weekend for me. I never dreamed he would be coming to a Plain Old pantry in Plano Texas named after my mother, Minnie Ewing but he is! I invite you to come meet Pastor Donna, Mrs. Minnie(who is preparing to give her free hugs away) Deion Sanders and others. Here are the details.

The past week was so emotional for me. As President of The Giving Movement, I have experienced alot of moments this year but none more challenging that last week. I have always believed that Christmas brings out the best in all of us, but this year, Minnie's Food Pantry realized more than ever what it means to depend upon the kindness of strangers. This Christmas Eve, we faced the challenge of our roof literally caving in destroying not only parts of our business office, but most importantly flooding and spoiling massive quantities of food in the storage areas that were in position to feed hundreds of families in the weeks of the New Year. On the heels of a difficult economic year for everyone, including The Giving Movement and Minnie's Food Pantry, the devastation was almost too much to bare.
Many of the news stations arrived to cover our story, which in turn, brought many of you, our "Christmas angels," to our doors with offers of help, donations, and in general good will with an added perfect blend of comfort and joy. Amidst the snow and cold, ruin and tears, a terrible accident that did so much harm was weaved into a special blessing that all of you helped turned to good.

We have a long way to go to put us back on our feet, but your kindness became the first step in rebuilding our foundation of brick and mortar, faith and hope, and our ability to keep to our cause of helping our neighbors in need. It would be impossible to convey the depth of our gratitude, but please know your involvement made a difference.

We know the chain of giving that you have started will be forged with strong links for the future and we pray that you and your families will be blessed with all good gifts. Thank you for your kindness, generosity, support and good will. Please keep in touch with us and know we are here to help, even you, should you ever need us. Gov. Rick Perry today placed a friendly wager with Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today placed a friendly wager with Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue over the outcome of today’s Independence Bowl game between the Texas A&M University Aggies and the University of Georgia Bulldogs.

“Georgia has a tremendous football program, but they’re going to find out the hard way just why Texas is the center of the football universe,” Gov. Perry said. “As an Aggie myself, you might say I’m biased, but I’ve seen this team grow each week under Coach Sherman, and I know the Aggies will take home a victory and send the Bulldogs back home to Georgia.”

Gov. Perdue offered a different point of view.

“In 2007, Governor Perry graciously flew the Georgia flag at the Texas Capitol after the Warner Robins Little Leaguers defeated Texas for the U.S. championship in route to their World Series title,” Gov. Perdue said. “Now in the Christmas Season, Gov. Perry is seeking to redeem himself with another wager. However, I am confident that Coach Richt and the Bulldogs will deliver for Georgia and the Atlanta Community Food Bank.”

In the spirit of friendly competition, Gov. Perry has wagered Mesquite Smoked Peppered Beef Tenderloin donated by the Perini Ranch Steakhouse in Buffalo Gap. When the Aggies beat the Bulldogs, Gov. Perry will donate the food from Georgia to Minnie’s Food Pantry in Plano.

The Independence Bowl takes place in Shreveport, La. This year’s game begins at 4 p.m. CDT.

Christmas week and Minnie's is Going Strong!

The downturn in our nations economy is still affecting thousands, and has been very apparent this Christmas Season here in Plano Texas. This Saturday Minnie's Food Pantry had its annunal Christmas food and toy giveaway. We served 459 adults and 342 children!!!

Today. On Tuesday, December 22 Minnie's Food Pantry is still going strong for Christmas. We served 32 families and 120 people! Because of the consistent toy donations of local generous strangers, we had an excess toys and was still able to give to certain age groups, needless to say we saw tons of smiles on the children's faces, as well as their parents!

Angels or Generous Strangers

What happens when you have a dream and a desire to help others? What happens when your dream is so much bigger than your personal bank account? That's where I have been for the last year, I have questioned who I really am and am I doing the right thing because times are getting tougher and when I look into the eyes of people that NEED help I feel helpless myself. I am not sure where to start but on this day, I will start by saying I am so grateful that there are people who have connected to my dream and to the vision.
Yesterday when I returned from Good Morning Texas there was a wlady with a wonderful smile and she seemed very quite but her donation to our organization spoke for her. (Let's call her Laurie) she handed a check to us that would feed almost 200 families for ONE WEEK! or purchase enough toys for 75 kids! I was so happy and the best part is that she may come back and volunteer with us!
Sometimes you never know where your blessing will come from so I will end by saying always trust your heart and trust that people with good hearts like Laurie and John will find you when you need them the most.

Please allow me to introduce myself. My Name is Jan H. I am a regular visitor to Minnies and I would love to say just a few things about this wonderful place and the people there helping distribute, and stock. These people always always have a smile on their face and treat everyone the same way they would want to be treated if the shoe were on the other foot. Cheryl is a wonderful Christian Lady (always speaking to those she recognizes and is ready to give a hug and even take a moment out of her hectic schedule to pray with you if you need it). Cheryl is truly an "Angel" on earth and has already earned her wings.

It's a hard thing for a person to have to ask for help but at Minnie's, there are no lines drawn as to culture or creed..No person is discriminated against....Their goal is to fulfill your needs. Minnie's Food Pantry, Christmas Giveaway 2009...December 19th.....

Well the weather outside is frightful.. those are the words to one of my favorite Christmas carols, but the staff and volunteers at Minnie's Food Pantry isn't afraid because we are prepared to provide emergency food assistance to needy and deserving families in our community.. Today Minnie's Food Pantry served 34 families that included 133 people! Although it was 27 degrees today in Plano, Texas Men and women braved the cold weather to get something as simple as their next meal. Everyone that comes to the pantry is greeted with a warm smile and a kind word. ~

Minnie's food Pantry is in full preparation for our Annual Christmas generous Stranger oy Giveaway!!

On Saturday, December 19th at Minnie's Food Pantry we will be giving away toys and food to everyone that has pre-registered at our pantry. The oys will be given in conjunction with the food to children, whose parents have "pre registered." Minnie's Food Pantry is really excited that we will be able to put a smile on the faces of Children for Christmas 2009!

Who gives away over $50,000.00 in FREE dental service to over 80 people in the community? DR. RITCHIE BEOUGHER and MARY BEOUGHER of WILLOW BEND DENTAL This story is extremely personal because my cousin who was adopted when he was born has had extreme dental problems. He is only 22 years old but he has to have all of his teeth removed because his mother was on drugs when she was pregnant. Willow Bend Dental pulled 5 of his teeth which is extremey expensive and now he only has to have 12 more pulled and then he can receive dentures. It took a man like Dr. Ritchie Beougher to make a decision to give back and today I thank and salute him for helping the people I love. My auntie called me in tears because she was so grateful and that's what life is about, helping others and making a difference. Willow Bend Dental also purchased a box truck for Minnie's Food Pantry to allow us to pick up additional food from around the area. If you need dental assistance please support the people that give back to the community.

What leads to persistent food insecurity?

(Today at Minnie's West Plano food pantry we fed 27 families and 105 people! 6 of which were new clients.)

So far this week, we've heard countless stories of what has led so many people to our door step. Most of our clients we see every 14 days, some once a month, and a few once every two to three months. Last week we decided to ask a few of our clients what has led them to become dependent upon assistance from Minnie's Food Pantry, and we were amazed at some of their stories. Most of them have been out of work for 8 months to a year,(husbands and wives, both unemployed). Many are disabled or on small fixed incomes with huge families.

One client that particulary stood out, currently lives in what most would consider an affluent neighborhood. She began to explain that last year she found out she has breast cancer, she soon lost her job, and has been in continuous chemotherapy and radiation sessions, which prevents her from seeking employment. Often when she visits our pantry she is too week to even sign in, or shop for her groceries. Our prayer is that she will be soon releaved or healed from her disease so she can have her life back, but in the mean time Minnie's Food Pantry is blessed to be here to help with something as small as, groceries for one month.

Wow in the midst of everything else we had going on in the Month of October Minnie's Food Pantry still managed to serve 2,411 people, many of whom were first time clients! As we move into the holiday season, Minnie's Food Pantry is bracing our selves for the next task at hand. We have over 300 people already registered for our big Thanksgiving giveaway which will be held on Saturday November 21st, so stay tuned for more details!

October 12Th. A very important date for two reasons! 1. We were set to have our First Annual Fundraising event, Discover the Joy of Giving where we also award Philanthropist in our Community for their faithful service 2. Oprah Winfrey was in town at the Texas State Fair, hosting her show.

As you all may know, I am self-proclaimed as Oprah's #1 Fan because I've always admired her passion for giving. I've had the pleasure of interviewing Ms Winfrey in Tampa Florida during her LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE TOUR, as well as shared a stage with her at Harpo Studio's in Chicago for a little "pre recording" fun.

When I heard Oprah was coming to the State Fair of Texas, there was no doubt I'd get front row! The tickets to her show were free. First come, first serve. My crew and I arrived around 5:30 a.m. and stood in-line waiting to enter the gates at 6:00 a.m, and we stood in line again as we waited for her show to begin at 10:00 a.m.! Even though it was standing room only, our excitement kept us energized. The show producers did a great job at show casing Texas' Pride, and the crowd was amazing! The show should be airing in the next week or so, so keep your eyes open! I'll be the one on the front row, waving my Blue Cowboy hat!

The Giving Movement & Minnie's West Plano Food Pantry is less than 5 days away from our Inaugural Discover the Joy of Giving "Fun"draiser where we will be celebrating star philanthropist in our community and their efforts to help feed the hungry through our organization. And as we prepare for this event it is business as usual at Minnie's Food Pantry, the new clients applications are increasing and we are right here to meet those demands. Today we served 34 families and 121 people!!! We are so excited that we are able to continue this service through the gracious hearts of our community support teams. I read that Plano was the weathiest city in America and as I open Minnie's Food Pantry every day and look into thye eyes of hungry people it reminds me of scripture in the bible:
Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

It was unbelieveable.. That combined with our special North Texas Food Bank delivery we are getting off to a pretty awesome start this week! We love our community partners!

MINNIE'S FOOD PANTRY REPORTING!

It's been a while since I've documented, but we are as busy as ever. Today is Tuesday, one of our busier days here at Minnie's West Plano Food Pantry, but due to the rain, our clients have trickled in. (There's usually a line forming before we can open our doors!) However, we still managed to serve 19 families/and 68 individuals. That's not our typical staggering number for a Tuesday morning, but enough to be noticed on a rainy day.

Since Minnie's Food pantry's upgrade to Client's Choice,(a pantry that allow its clients to choose only the foods they eat) we have received so many new applicants!We are also happy to report that our volunteer base & random food drive assistance has grown as well!

Our clients have revealed that they feel independent, and more loved when they walk through the doors at Minnie's Food Pantry. It's hard to deny, we are greeted with more smiles now, than the embarrassed faces we had grown accustomed to seeing. Knowing that we are helping people feel better, while in their difficult situation, put smiles on our faces too!!

The Giving Movement Prepares for Back To School

FREE BACK TO SCHOOL GIVEAWAY IN CARROLLTON, TX!

Van Chevrolet & The Giving Movement Organization teams up to serve an estimated 500 needy children in North Texas with Free School Supplies. This event will take place August 15, 2009, from 11am to 1:00 p.m. at Van Chevrolet North of LBJ Freeway, that’s 1700 I-35 Carrollton, Texas 75006

Pre-registration is “not” required, parents must show up to sign in with their children and they will receive their free school supplies. There will also be Free Hotdogs, Popcorn, Beverages, and More!

Huge Day, Despite Changes!

Today we serviced 140 people, (36) families. Due to lack of donations and increase in clientele, Minnie’s West Plano Food Pantry decided to temporarily alter the days that recipients could receive food. Since the day we've opened our doors we've allowed our clients to come once every 14 days, and we're open 5 days a week. That was a year and a half ago. As the word got out about the new food pantry in West Plano our numbers began to increase, and our funding, not so much. As we struggled to keep up with the demands of our community we decided to ask everyone if they would come once every 30 days instead of 14, until our finances would allow us to do otherwise.
In the last two days we noticed a difference, but it wasn't less people to serve. It was 29 more new faces! We thought by minimizing the amount of days our regulars could come it would give us a chance to serve the new people we had attracted so far this month, but that number increased by half in just two days? So much for that plan, but God always comes through!

This week we are receiving two extra food deliveries than what was originally anticipated. And most of the recipients gave a little something back to help out, it wasn't much, but it was enough to encourage our staff. We feel good about what we’re doing here at Minnie’s West Plano Food Pantry, and look forward to creating partnerships that will support us in this cause.

Meet Sandra Dunnigan

For the last 6 months our staff could not help but notice the friendship between Sandra Dunnigan(in black), and Jeanette Jenkins,(seated in the white T-shirt.) For months they would ride the bus together from Garland to Plano to receive groceries from our Pantry. Torrential rains, thunder, and even lighting would not stop these women from showing up! Jeantte with her walker & basket, and Sandra with her back pack. They always came as a pair, until one day we noticed that Sandra started to come alone. She began to tell us that Jeanette was very sick, and had been admitted into the hospital for a while.(She was very sadden by her friends sickness and absence.)

Sandra continued to come, and soon, when her friend was released from the hospital asked us if she could start picking up food for her sick friend. She was very emotional on one particular visit because all she wanted to do was help. Sandra continued to give us updates on Jeanette, and one day we looked up and her and Jeanette were together again! But this time Jeanette was in a wheel chair. Sandra was with her, not because she was here to receive, but because she wanted to help her friend. (Due to Jeannette's absences they were now on opposite weeks to receive food) But instead of staying home, like today, Sandra made the sacrifice again to catch a bus, with her disabled friend from Garland to Plano to help her pick up her groceries, and get them home. Now that's a true friend, and the power of giving back.

With 40 families, and 133 people being served today, there was no shortage of work at Minnie's West Plano Food Pantry. At 8:42 a.m the lines were already filling up! All hands were on deck with 4 staff members and 8 volunteers, we all worked together, and served our North Texas Community with a smile! Thanks to Market Street(our faithful local supporter)and The North Texas Food bank our recipients left happy and hopeful! Saturday, July 18th was a very busy day, Minnie's West Plano Food Pantry fed 33 families with over 115 people. The line was wrapped around the corner and people came in with tears in their eyes. The Mother's Day contest is in honor of my mother, Minnie Ewing. She is the reason I started The Giving Movement. She is a strong, yet graceful woman. When my father passed away, it was my mother that took the pulpit and preached his funeral and then gracefully took her seat. She is a pilar in the community. She raised seven kids and she taught us the importance of love and family. She is my rock, she is a beacon of light and she is recognized by her contagious smile and sensational hugs.

The Giving Movement was a dream two years ago. A dream that kept me awake morning, noon and night. It was sparked by my parents, grandmother and my husband. Then this lady named Oprah started Mega giving and I wanted to be an impact on my world like she has done on this world.
There are numerous nights of tears and fears and voices. I read a quote that said she listened to her heart above all the voices and I found the power inside of me. To God be the glory.

I live my passion daily. It isn't easy but it sure is rewarding! Everyday my arms and my sons arms are stretched out to provide food and even a hug to anyone that enters Minnie's Food Pantry.

Virginia businessman Earl Stafford has spent $1 million to give hundreds of poverty-stricken and terminally ill Americans, along with wounded men and women in uniform, an inauguration experience that won't cost them anything.

Stafford's event is one of the splashiest inauguration packages out there. It includes high-end hotel rooms and luxury suites, food and drinks, a heated viewing spot right above the parade route, even gowns and tuxedos to wear to celebratory balls and a beautician to help attendees get ready.

Hours after the election, Stafford, a 60-year-old businessman and son of a Baptist minister, invested in what the JW Marriott billed as its $1 million "build-your-own-ball" inaugural hotel package.

His family's nonprofit foundation, the Stafford Foundation, is footing the bill for what it is calling the People's Inaugural Project, but it is also hoping to get money from sponsors.

Stafford said Thursday that he hopes the balcony terrace is filled "with those who are disadvantaged, those who are distressed, mingling with those who aren't so. And we hope to see on their faces a sense of excitement."

"I was inspired to do this by the Lord. ... It's not about us but about us helping other people," he said.

At least third of the tickets to the event will go toward people who are needy or underprivileged, and the rest of those participating could be people from sponsoring foundations, companies or volunteers.

Everything, he said, will be taken care of: transportation, evening gowns and tuxedos for the ball.

He hopes that providing a front row seat to history will inspire those invited to do good things in their communities.

Stafford said he began thinking about the project in March. He voted for Barack Obama, and records show he contributed $4,600 to the Democrat's campaign, according to the Post.

Stafford, a retired Air Force officer, noted that he does not agree with all of Obama's positions. But, he told the paper, he decided the inauguration would be "a transition in history, if you will ... and everyone should be included."

I read the quote "Making a Living thru Giving" on an email that I received from Tish today. I loved it so much I thought I would use it too.

Don't you love this season? Everywhere I go I see happy people smiling, opening doors and I hear laughter in the air. I stopped and begin to imagine the what if's. Today I appeared on Good Morning Texas and after that I was the keynote speaker at the annual Allen Chamber W.I.S.E womens expo.

What if I had never met Gary Cogill. What if he would not have asked me to audition for GMT? Where would I be today?
What if I had never met a beautiful lady named Lauri at Viewpoint Bank, what if she had not told Anne at the chamber my name? I am sure that I wouldn't have had the opportunity to meet the most powerful entrepenuers in Allen, Texas today.

Life is full of what if's. Your life depends on the what if's that you will do today.

My webmaster is one of the smartest men that I know. I met him because he lost his job and I offered him a hand up by giving him food from our pantry. After he got back on his feet, he called me and offered me his services. Do you like my website? What I like is that he didn't forget the person that helped him, I had no idea of his talents.

As President of Minnie's Food Pantry, I am pleased to announce our new campaign. YES we CAN ( with cans of corn, meat, and fruit) end hunger in our country. It begins with each one of us. I challenge you to find a food bank in your community and donate at least one CAN of non-perishable food to their shelves. The need is great but together we CAN and will make a difference.

I'm not sure where to begin this story. It started a few days ago when Laura called me to ask about Minnie's Food Pantry and if we needed help. I pictured the empty shelves at the pantry and I said YES! I HAD NO IDEA what would happen today.

The Frito Lay team came to the Pantry and where do I begin? They embraced my vision as though they had started the Giving Movement. They immediately broke into teams. You can't imagine what it felt like to have 25 of the most skilled, educated people in your organization offering help and advice. It was incredible.

Moments that I remember:
The F250 truck that tiny Heather had to park as she pulled up smiling and the team anxiously awaiting her arrival.

The hugs that I received from all of the muscle bound men of Frito Lay (smile)and how they didn't mind picking up and emptying boxes after boxes.

Laura- telling me to breathe -- don'tdo the ugly cry she said- just breathe and enjoy the moment (I will upload pictures later so you can determine if I was successful)

Pam- taking the bull by the horns and organizing teams that put together the thanksgiving dinners that we will be serving this Saturday at 1:00 and how her team came together and acheived every task that I sat before them ( AMAZING)

Annette- who kept pinching me to make sure I wasn't dreaming and for giving me a reason to want to do even more

Wyn- How ironic that a young student who thought of how to protect the integrity of our program was actually a Frito Lay employees son ( how proud he must be of him)

Gosh Suzanne- who is coming back to the pantry Saturday and is bringing teddy bears for all the children that we will serve - I AM SOOO PUMPED

I am also sleepy really I am sleep typing FYI--You know you are spending alot of money in the grocery store when they take your shoes and put them on top of the soda machine so you don't forget them.

What we do matters- and today Frito Lay ( Pam's team) Did something that will matter to over 5,000 people.

This weekend was incredible! I had the opportunit to interview Stars that shine right in Dallas Texas. Not because they are on Dancing with the Stars but because they give and make peoples eyes light up. The one and only Russell Simmons brought Dallas Rocks to our city and the red carpet was filled with people to honor the one and only Magic Johnson for his life of philanthropy.

Emmitt and Pat Smith were the co-chairs and Pat Smith was radiant as ever. Ray Crockett and his wife also chaired the event. I never dreamed I would be sitting at the table with the most prominent stars in the world, but I was there. I read something by Pat Reinke that sums up the evening and I want to share it with you its called BOLDY BE-

I have always wanted to be a philanthropist and a reporter. I have no college education but I have a heart and a spirit to connect with people. Friday night, I decided to be a reporter and I was. I had the opportunity to look into the eyes of the worlds idea of a superstar and I experienced what it must BE like to donate millions of dollars to charities. One day, very soon, I will BE one of those kinds of philanthropist.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. On my 40th birthday I opened my dream, Minnies food Pantry to honor my mother and to feed hungry people in the community.
There was a huge party with Mayor Pat Evans proclaiming August 26th as Cheryl Jackson Day and Minnies Food Pantry Day. It was unbelievable. There were representatives from WalMart, WAMU, BBBS, A1-Affordable, HALO, A live DJ and Channel 8 Good Morning Texas Broadcasted live from the pantry.

The holidays are approaching, I always enjoy the change of seasons especially the fall. People get into the Giving Zone and they understand the importance of helping others.

Last month I had the opportunity to speak the children at AW Spence middle school. I was asked what would I speak about and I honestly could not tell the person. I believe that when you speak from the heart you make heart connections. So as I was talking I had the opportunity to look into the eyes of our next generation and to speak a word into their lives that would give them hope.

One young man definitely stood out from the rest. He was a true leader ( there are all types of leaders in this world). I knew he was a leader when he made his way upon the stage and asked if he could speak, the students went wild. His name was Cristian. I wasn't sure what he was going to say but when he took the microphone there was a hush in the auditorium. Every child wanted to hear him and the teachers stood in awe. As Cristian began to speak, he made me realize why I decided to GIVE my life and my time to The Giving Movement even though I do not receive a salary. I do this for FREE because of Cristian, River, and the other 1200 kids at this school. As Cristian spoke, tears streamed down the faces of his peers. Cristian apologized to his teachers for not being the ideal student and he apolized to his peers for the actions he had taken prior to that day. Cristian became a POSITIVE leader that day! The principal asked me to return to the school to motivate the children for their taks test and Cristian had a huge surprise for me.
I will be turning 40 this year and I wrote down the things I wanted to happen before and during that year.
I forgot to put that I wanted someone to write a song about me but my new friend Cristian took care of it! If an eighth grader wrote a song about what you what would they say. What have you done today, to make you feel proud? This was one of the proudest moments of my life!

If Oprah can have the BigGive watch what happened when Cheryl speaks to the little givers. For years I have said that giving is a learned behavior. My parents taught it to me, I taught it to my children. When The Giving Movement entered this school, we were told that these children didn't have very much. What I learned in life is that if you can give someone hope, things change. (Mother says that means Having Only Positive Emotions). After my speech, the drama teacher took the microphone and said she believed and she had hope. She stated that in the 25 years at AW Spence they had never had a drama play produced by the school. Watch what happens when I asked the children do THEY believe. The school must raise $3000.00. Will you help them? I am going back to the school today to take another $150.00 from a garage sale I had over the weekend. What will you give? One child stood up to bring a dollar,the rest is history. The kids raised $600.00 in one day. They must raise $2400.00 by May 1st. Donate on the site to help the children. We will raise the money and the show will go on. Help me give these children more HOPE.

Last week I had the honor of speaking to a class at AW Spence school in Dallas,Texas. It just so happened that the principle was in the classroom and she invited me to come back to the school to speak all of the students.

On Friday, The Giving Movement will roll back up to the school and don't be surpised with what we will give to the students. I will have the honor of speaking to 1200 students. Since I will be talking about giving, living and mentorship please pray that I say something to impact just one person.

Oprah's Big Give..tonights episode

As I sit here watching the Big Give, I had to type my thoughts. Seven people were given 100,000 dollars to make a difference in Miami and I'm thinking how hard can this be. EVERY city has homeless shelters, battered centers and people in need. Every city has a east and west side. When giving is in your heart you KNOW what to do. If I was given 100k I wouldn't have to look far regardless of the city I was in. I would pay 10k toward a food pantry for food. I would pay the rent/mortgage for a single parent or tenants in a low income area. I would go to a bus stop and interview people and buy a car for the person that needed it the most. I would visit the battered womens shelter and spend $500.00 on them. I would have picked up the Miami newspaper and ripped stories straight from the newspaper to help people.
I just don't understand why people are having such a hard time with this challenge. I am amazed Now a lady is giving away flowers, wow. Go to a expensive restaurant and purchase meals for the rich people and challenge them to give back too. Oh my goodness, what an opportunity of a lifetime they received.
I hope they cherished that moment.

When you think of a Mayor you think of a stuff shirt individual that is all about politics and numbers but not this Mayor! He reminds me of John F. Kennedy, he is the nicest and warmest man that has a heart for the City of Dallas and its people.

He shared his dreams for the city and talked about his hero which was his mother. I will post the interview on the internet with him and of course we invted him to the BIG Give Red Carpet affair.

Oprah's Big Give Everything is Bigger in Texas- Join the Giving Movement

Have you ever been in a place where you didn't think you could go another step and then something happened? That's where I was this week. I experienced a roller coaster of emotions. Before I can perform the ribbon cutting for the Giving Boutique Retail Store on February 28th, I am preparing for the Big Givers Food Pantry two doors down all because of some BIG Givers who turned MY dream into a reality. See my previous post (YES, WE CAN)

So it is only befitting as founder of the Giving Movement that we join the Queen of Giving to celebrate her new show called "Oprah's Big Give".

How will we celebrate? I'm glad you asked. I called the owner of Studio Movie Grill and asked if they would GIVE us a theater on March 2nd for Free and donate FREE movie tickets to be given away during the commercials and on my Good News radio show. I waited a couple of days, said a little prayer and continued to work on the food pantry. Well, the phone rang and my new best friend,said "YES, we will do it". So what does this mean?

Save the date: Sunday, March 2nd at 7:30 I am calling all givers to the prestigous brand new one week old( you can still smell the fresh paint)prestigious Studio Movie Grill located at 11170 N Central Expressway, Dallas, Texas 75243 ( located in the NE corner)
Once you are seated in your comfortable individual leather chair that swivels, rolls, and tilts, servers will take your order like any restaurant. Your food will be brought to you inside the theater, usually before the movie starts, so you can enjoy your meal during the show. You will also be given a small coaster light. We don't want to disturb you during the BIG GIVE show, so the coaster light lets their staff know you want service. Your check will be dropped 40 minutes before the movie ends and you can pay out at your convenience.

THE SEATING IS LIMITED AND YOU MUST RSVP to: give@thegivingmovement.org Once you have done that you MUST receive a letter of confirmation from the Giving Movement.

Yes, We Can

I watched a video this morning from Presidential hopeful Barak Obama. In the video he showed many people coming together and the theme was Yes,we Can. I remembered receiving a phone call last month from a Dallas Morning News reporter who said he was looking for the number one Oprah fan to ask a question about her endorsement of Obama. I laughed when he said "they found that person to be me." So he began to ask questions. Questions like, "do I feel that Oprah was wrong to endorse Obama and will that make me vote for him because she did endorse him."
As president of a non-profit organization let me say that I am speaking on behalf of myself only and not this organization.
As I watched Obama's video, and I kept hearing the words YES,WE CAN be repeated over and over again something on the inside of me rose up.

Yesterday, was a long day. I went to Home Depot to ask for them to donate the material and labor supplies that were needed to complete the food pantry and they said I had to fill out a grant request which takes 6-8 weeks before I would get a request. It was like someone had blowed up a beautiful balloon and popped it in my face.
I frantically drove around searching, asking and seeking for donations and help. There is a scripture in the bible that said the harvest is ripe but the laborers are few. Of course, in my life things are always the opposite. I have 24 angels who want to do this project but according to their project guidelines, they can NOT use their own money. I have exhausted all my money. I can't afford to pay attention.

When you see and read about big organizations, you must understand that they started from somewhere small. I'm sure you heard of Larry Jones and Feed the Children(he will be on my radio show this Saturday). His goal was just to feed one child at a time. Oprah Winfrey with the Angel Network, well she's a different breed LOL. But Lady O went throught some things to get to where she is now. My point is they made it. So as I sit here with tears streaming down my face, getting ready to face another day, and I say to you YES, WE CAN.
You can achieve your dreams and so can I. YES, WE CAN. I was born to give. I was born to help others and like my mother said and I proudly quote "CJ, you can do anything you put your mind to" and to that I say, YES, I CAN.
I also told you I would be candid about my feelings and the truth of the matter is I am so tired. My mind, my body and my soul is aching. But I still press on. My son told me that he wanted to do what I did, in regards to speaking to the children in school's as a full time job. Can you imagine that? One day I hope to hire him. Oprah said it best, your passion is doing the things you want to do, even if you don't get paid to do it. Well, I am definitely living my passion.

On Thursday, I received a call from a man named Sean. I met Sean in December of 2007 for a brief moment, he had stopped by the boutique to donate toys for Christmas. I shared a smile and I introduced him to someone I thought might help him achieve his dream. I thought he was calling to thank me for the introduction but instead he asked me what did I need for the Giving Movement Organization. I explained about the store and the FOOD PANTRY - you know the one I wrote about in my previous blog that had no electricity and told him my dream. He asked me to email him my wants and needs for the pantry. The following morning Sean called me back and said that a leadership group #171 wanted to take on my project at no cost to me!!!

Can you imagine my tears? I don't think you can? I mean I have watched this stuff happen on televison, Queen O does it all the time but this has Never happened to me. The most money I can get is $5 from a Game show LOL (that's another story) I sat there crying the ugly cry. My phone begin to ring from people all around the world that I had never met. They told me how much I deserved for this to happen and how honored they were to have do it. I think I cried on every conversation. Saturday morning when I drove to my building the Angels were waiting there. This is what an Angels looks like. I will continue to take pictures so you can see the results.

On December 25th I opened the Giving Boutiques doors to give away free toys at Christmas.
I remembered waking up with my 5 brothers and one sister and my two cousins and we had nothing but LOVE. I promised myself if can help it, I want to make sure every kid in my world has a toy. Thanks to four Walmart stores and the kindness of Generous Strangers we were able to provide toys to the ones who needed.As I type this blog I can't explain the emotions that are going through my mind.

I was given a key to a storefront two doors down from the Giving Boutique. The store had no electricity and the walls needed drywall and painting. The ceiling had tiles missing everywhere, one as a matter of fact one of the tiles almost fell and hit me in the head, but it was MY building and MY dream so I was thrilled to be in that cold dreary place.

I can see it now... people coming in from miles away to receive food and LOVE.
But how would this happen? I have exhausted all of my funds. My dear old hubby has been patient with me. He sees my vision and supports it but when will it breakthrough ( this was my prayer)
Then it happened, I titled this blog do you believe in Angels for several reasons. The most important one is because of my father. He passed away 3 years ago and he always told me I could do anything I wanted to. I remember his butterfly kisses, Let me pause for a moment and I will be right back. tears oh the tears whew

Okay, I'm back. This place is going to be the Giving Movement's Food Pantry. My dream is to partner with the charities and distribute food and toiletries to people in our area.

My first Angel is the woman who gave me the key to my FREE building. She laughed while I cried because I said if you GIVE me the key, the rest will come together. I told her I wanted the place for FREE and she finally said okay. Can you believe it? She was probably thinking what could I do with a building without electricity and that is useless. ( Isn't that what we think about some people?)

Wait until I post the pictures to see what some people whom I have NEVER met has done for me. So instead of doing one grand opening on February 28th we will be doing two. I am aazed and overwhelmed.
All I have to say is HOLD ON TIGHT TO YOU DREAMS and NEVER let anyone take them from you. I will post more thoughts later. I am running out the door to another meeting.
I have to ask Home Depot to donate materials for the store. Wish me luck.

Tomorrow is my father's birthday. I wish he was here to celebrate it! I am sitting in my room looking at the ceiling fan circulating and feeling such an emptiness inside. I can't describe this emotion but I wouldn't wish it on my worse enemy. It's been over two years but when the sun rises it will seem like it was just yesterday that my father was looking at me with his bright wide eyes and saying hello miss Shirley. I miss laying on his shoulder and I miss the security that I felt in his arms. I miss his beautiful smile and I remember always trying to see myself in his gold tooth. I miss him singing... What a wonderful world and me trying to sing lower than his deep bass note was. I miss his barbeque chicken that smelled like it was ready when in reality he had only seasoned it.... I miss trying to sneak a piece of that chicken and he would call my name just as the chicken touched my lips. I miss him singing Bow down in church and I miss him preaching that southern gospel word of God.
I miss the way he smelled. I could never figure out the fragrance because he would always mix and match designer colognes to get HIS perfect scent. I miss him wiping my tears and sometimes I wouldn't tell him why I was crying but what was incredible is that he never really asked me why. I wish he could wipe my tears right now as they flow uncontrollably down my face, and around me, life goes on. My husband is downstairs, my niece and nephews are there with him. My sons are in their rooms and I sit here alone and thinking GOD I MISS YOU DAD.
Mother said that this picture was a typical day in my childhood. Papa would just sit on the bed and look at me. I wonder if Papa can see me now. I know he would be prouder than he ever was before of me. I am becoming the little girl he wanted me to be. I wish I would have caused him less trouble and grief and used those "do better" conversations to get closer to him. I miss you dad. I really miss you. I will see you again. until then God needs to find alot a bottles to store my tears in because theu are flowing like a river.

It seems like yesterday that I was running around living my life like I wanted to. I had these handsome boys and my mother and all her wisdom said Cheryl before you know it YOU WILL BLINK and those boys will be grown and living their own life. I did the usual, I laughed at mom, thanked her for the advice and continued to live my life. I found this photo and again, the tears flowed. Look at them, aren't they the most beautiful kids you have ever seen. Bug looks straight the camera just to say, you caught me and I don't care. RJ looks down with that sneaky smile as if to say I'm so cute if I laugh I won't get a spanking ( and he didn't that day) so what happened?
I blinked, then they went to pre-school and I continued to live my life. I blinked and they went to middle school and silly me still didn't get it. They were slowly developing into men. I kept living my life and doing things my way. Yes, occasionally we had our good times but for the most part I was with friends and laughing with other family members instead of with them. I had them at the other end of the table at Luby's when they wanted to be next to me. But we had grown up stuff to discuss (that was my excuse) . I blinked and now they don't want to sit at our table. Now they don't even want to go to Lubys anymore. I blinked and my oldest son graduated and is now preparing to move out. I blinked and my youngest son has his own mind and his own philosophy of life. Then I opened my eyes and blinked so much from tears locking under my cheeks. I immediatley heard my mothers voice whispering to me, you'll blink she said, you'll blink. If you have children learn a lesson from the road I travelled. Take time to build memories. I am doing that now and thank God that it's not too late but it is later than I should have started. Cherish stolen moments with you and your child alone and make time to be with the ones who mean the world to you. I blinked and my father was gone. Sometimes, I hate closing my eyes for fear of what will happen when I BLINK.

It was 9:30 on Tuesday morning when picked up my blue Sony Ericsson and began to dial the number 469-583-6xxx. Was I pressed the send button I prepared myself for the worst, but prayed for the best. I asked that light bright and almost white husband of mine what was his decision regarding homeschooling our son. He said "I really don't want you to do it, but if you want to then go ahead." Without hesitation I grabbed my flip flops, put a cap on my head and ran to the Chrysler that sat in my garage on empty. Oh no, it's on empty. I had a one track mind. I was going to get to that school and withdraw my son before my husband changed his mine. My emotions were running, my adrenaline was at an all time high. I was crying and laughing. I didn't want this to be one of those ..I wish I would have done this type of decisions. So I ran to the garage screaming move Duke move... that's my dog. I pressed the garage door button, but the garage door wouldn't go up!! I ran outside to the front yard, I had guest staying at my house. I asked them for their keys because they happened to be parked in front of the mailbox so their car had to be moved. I immediately jumped in their car and my thoughts were to get to that school and then go wash their car so it would appear as if I was just doing a good deed.
My friend Tri came over as I was driving off so I put their car in park and jumped in the van with Tri. Get me to Plano High school I said, she was laughing. I made a mental note not to answer the phone until the mission was accomplished. Sometimes people will change their mind. I ran into the school out of breathe but happy to be there. They sent me on a wild goose chase from building and one hallway to the other. At one point my ankles started hurting but I limped on because I knew what the end result, I could see my finish line. Every time I went to a different area I remembered to call Tri to tell her to move her car too, she continued to laugh. After entering the third building I was greeted by the coldest woman woman sitting at a desk. She was about 45 years old, wearing glasses and a sweater in 100 degree temperature, that let me know she was cold. Her name was Debra, I approached the desk, out of breath but happy. As I wasted for her to greet me with a smile, she never looked up. I said, Debra, I need to withdraw my son. Debra said with a tone just as rough as can be, " fill out this form and where is he going." I said to a private school, she said ok. It was that simple. Now I see why I want to remove my son from the public school system. Someone needs to teach her some manners.
The word said I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me. I am proud to say you are reading the blog of a PROUD HOME SCHOOLING MOTHER!!! Was there FEAR? of course there was but I overcame my reservations and all of the what if's. This Saturday my son will become enrolled in Jackson Christian Academy ( that has a nice ring to it). I am so excited about it. I feel like I am starting a new chapter in my role as a mother and wife. I see the potential of something big. I see me handing my son his diploma, I see us developing a bond that parents such as myself have dreamed about for years. I see an honor student being influenced by me and my friends and family and that makes me smile. My son, Artis, came into the room and just kissed me. I was like what was that about? he turned around and walked out. NO LIMITS... I see increase. In our conversation, in our time together, in our laughing moments and in just living.

I am so proud of myself. I am going to blog everyday about this challenge because if I can do this anyone can. I am honored to be his teacher. Yesterday a couple of his school friends came over and they told him how lucky he was for being home schooled and he agreed. Again, I am so proud. At this point in my life nothing else matters. Not money, not diamonds, nothing matters. What matters to me is to see my sons eyes light up when we talk about us working together this year. I have had countless nights where I walked the floor all night long, well maybe not walked the floored but saw myself pacing the floor in my dreams while the drool was coming down he side of my mouth and I would wake up and wonder how I could be a better person and look at how the tides have change.

I haven't heard from Deal or No Deal YET but they will be calling me soon. I am thankful today for my family and my friends who have seen who I am and are allowing me to be me. I am thankful that my lights are still on... cause its 105 degrees outside. I am thankful that I can see a shadow of my hair over my eyebrow- it's been a long time coming. I am thankful that I don't need television as a companion that I can read or just lay silently in bed while looking at my gold ceiling and let tears stream until I can taste the salt in my mouth but I am still happy. I am thankful that everyone in my family is alive. I am thankful for the glass desk and credenza that was given to me; I was told that it belonged to the VP of a prominent company and cost over $ 1,500.00 so as I look in my sitting room area (where my new desk is along with my MAC computer) I recognize how good God has been to me.
Look out world between GOD and Me there are NO LIMITS!

Desperate Housewife?

As I sit home I reminisce on my days in corporate America, running from desk to desk and meeting deadlines. I shutter to think that I will ever have to return to them ever again. I realize that I have become a Desperate Housewife but not the kind you watch on television. I am desperate to see a change in my life and in the lives of those that I hold near and dear to my heart. I want to see my son, RJ, obtain a good job, I want him to share with me his hopes and dreams and I want to be there for his troubles and triumphs. I am desperate to see him climb the corporate ladder of success and to play the lead guitar ( with his eyes closed). I envision my son Artis Jr. walking across the stage getting his diploma, wait is that me handing it to him. I am desperate and very scared. We have discussed homeschooling him for his senior year and I have doubts, reservations and honestly this is something I never thought I could do until now. But will I do it and be good at it? I am desperate, his future depends on our success of this home schooling program. What if I fail him. I am always up for a challenge but today I am scared. Tomorrow is decision day. If we will cross the road of home schooling I must withdraw him from the public school system tomorrow. What will we do?
I am desperate to fulfill my role as a parent in the last years of my son being home, honestly I haven't done a good job. It seems as though I get a handle on cleaning, and then I fail at cooking. How did Florida do it on Good Times? I'm going to watch some of the reruns to figure it out. The Brady Bunch family had a maid. I am a dreamer. I am desperate to make things come together before it's too late. My husband looks at me and tells me how proud he is of me? What is he proud of? Why can't I see it and feel proud of myself? I am desperate to find a place in my soul where I can rest. A place where I can have a perfect peace, where the anxieties of life doesn't take a toll on me, where chest pains are moments of the past. I am desperate to breathe a breath of fresh air and appreciate it! I am desperate to write down my own personal goals and achieve them one task at a time.
Why are the tears falling? Because I am desperate! When you reach the moment of sure desperation there is a level of intensity that overshadows you and you can close your eyes and see what success looks like. I am desperate to see success with my eyes OPEN. I want to be a part of making someone's mission impossible; possible. In a few days I will be 38 years old. My father said it best. When death came to get a beautiful woman she asked death why didn't you give me a clue that you were coming. Death said, When your hair turned grey, that was a clue. When you needed glasses, that was a clue, when your body ached day and night that was a clue. Everyday you lived was a clue that you were closer to death. I see clues of my death all around me. Perhaps I am in a world of my own, maybe nobody thinks about this but as of 10:04 p.m. My name is Cheryl Jackson and I am a Desperate Housewife. I desperately need a change. Let's see what happens tomorrow.

Hey it's been one week and I have managed to blog something everyday. I am so proud of myself. It takes 21 days to form a habit so I have 14 days left to keep this going. Wish me luck and I decided that I will begin to take a photo of something everyday and share it with you, I want to know do you see what I see in the photo. ... I will start tomorrow.

At the end of the day the only thing that matters is family and friends. I attended a funeral today from a man that I had only met a couple of times but he was a dear friend to my husband. As a little girl there was this man who I admired so much that I named my first born son after him. His name was Robert Hawthorne, he was my father. As I sat in Paul's funeral I began to think about all the things I wish I had did for and with my father. One of my biggest dreams was to purchase a boat for dad and my husband to use on their fishing trips. I was about eight years old when dad took me to Lake Lavon with him. I can still see the 13.98 Walmart receipt when he bought me my first fishing rod. I also remember him spending 45.00 for his TWO new rods and that was alot of money to us. Dad would let me go fishing and I always had problems baiting my hook. It was about 8:30 a.m. and all was quite on the waters and I kept asking my dad to please come bait my hook until he finally agreed. I stepped back and gave him my rod and he said, Cheryl watch my poles. I agreed but thought to myself that nothing would happen and then to my surprise dad's line started going underwater, it was there, on his hook, one of the biggest fishes he would ever catch. Dad ook off running full speed ahead to grab that pole, I watched in unbelief, Dad was trying to pull that pole in but unfortunately it went underwater and there was nothing dad could do to save it. He was devastated and so was I. That was the day I promised myself if I ever got any money, I was going to purchase the biggest boat for daddy and we would spend hours on the lake. Needless to say, I never got enough money or credit to buy that boat and God decided to take dad home. So back to my original story. Paul told my husband that he could bring my dad out to go fishing on his boat. I can see my fathers eyes just as clearly as day, he was so excited about going to Paul's pond and getting on that boat. After he had the fishing experience of a lifetime he talked about it for days..weeks... and years. To me Paul was my fathers dream giver. He fulfilled a dream for someone that he didn't even know. As I shared this story at the funeral I saw tears streaming down the families face. You see, at the end of the day (your God given days) that is the only thing that matters. What will people say about me at the end of the day? Will a stranger tell my family that I shared a smile or gave them a dollar when they were short on change? Will a single parent say that I bought their child a pair of socks during the winter time or will an elderly person say that I just took time to listen? Will my kids say that I loved them unconditionally and my husband say that I was the best wife he will ever have? What will people say , at the end of YOUR day?

Alexander Smith says it best; Your death and my death are mainly of importance to us. Tears will dry, hurt hearts will close, and the world will continue on. It does not miss us; and those near and dear to us, when vacancy wears off, will not miss us much either......At the end of the day.

My first receipt was for $209.94, I spent $ 21.40! That's 89.9% savings! Check out the photos for yourself. Looks like I will be able to clean house for one year without buying any more cleaning products. I will smell good and fresh while cleaning the house with all of the Oil of Olay soap products and should I decide to take a break I can color pictures for my friends with my 25 boxes of crayola markers. At the second store the total was 95.21 and I spent $7.03 that was a 92.7% savings. The final store was $123.23 I spent $6.40 any questions???? And yes, I will be donating some of these products to my favorite charity www.thetouchministry.com
